The Nightshift is a Swedish Horrorpunk-n-roll band that has been around for a few years but hasn't made a lot of headway in the U.S. until recently - or well they haven't become a household name in my neck of the woods just yet. All of this has started to change since the band signed with Dr. Cyclops Records, a highly regarded Horrorpunk Record Label.

The Nightshift's first release for Dr. C. is entitled Los Muertos and it has been turning heads left and right amongst horror fans and music journalists alike. It saddens me deeply to be one of the first to say I don't share everyone's sentiments about the album. While the album is thirteen tracks in length, I find it hard to follow along with any of the songs. Just about every track comes off feeling like it's a LOUD AS HELL mad dash to the finish line; none of the songs seem to flow into each other. Normally, this doesn't bother me but the vocals aren't very clear in the mix and the melodies that are present feel severely forced. There's no breathing room in the album for anything – think raw and gnarly versions of early Ramones and Motorhead releases that have made it onto the market in the last few years. Does any of this make the album a complete loss? Not necessarily, it's all in the eye of the beholder. It's just not my cup of tea and I expected much more.

Nevertheless, all of you Horror Rockers who love it fast, dirty and reckless may very well find the missing link in The Nightshift's Los Muertos. Horrorpunk can be a hit or a miss more often than not, so the only way to really find out is to check the band out for yourself. You can pick the disc up at these fine retailers www.myspace.com/xdrcyclopsrecordsx , Rhapsody, Itunes and Emusic. Or you can check the band quickly via their myspace page.
